What we care for
Our Approach
Gender equality is the core vision of all the activities of MUKTA. Deep rooted gender stereotypes, inequitable relations, power dynamics and social norms in India add to the vulnerabilities and marginalisation of women. Our aim is to bring about gender transformative change at the individual, household, and community levels.
Education
We work with teachers and students in rural areas to cultivate skills through extra-curricular activities – like music, dancing, painting and craft work – which combine learning with fun. They are skilled, taught and encouraged. Needless to say, our students enjoy these classes immensely. UN Days like Women’s Day, Environment Day, Human Rights Day, Earth Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Cancer Day, World Population Day & International Elderly Day are used as markers to raise awareness on a variety of issues and encourage important conversations amongst the students, and through them the larger community.
Computer Education
The process of digital literacy and digital inclusion is significant for women because of access to financial services. Knowledge of and access to these digital services such as mobile money services can empower women to start small businesses and give them greater control over their money and savings.
Health Care & Nutrition
Health care and sanitation is of especial importance , particularly in rural areas where primary & basic health care facilities are not easily or readily available. Better nutrition means stronger immune systems, fewer incidences of illness and better health. With the idea of prevention being better than cure we target the nutritional status of women which is important both for the quality of their own lives and the survival and healthy development of their children.
Skill development
Skill Development with an eye on employment is the need of the hour. There is a growing realization that having an educational degree, does not always help in getting a job commensurate with one’s qualification. However, a minimum qualification of Class X combined with some vocational skill leads to better employment opportunities. It enhances earning capability of the marginalized sections of society, thus bringing them into the economic mainstream. We work to empower underprivileged students /adults by providing sustainable livelihood leading to economic independence.
